As Courtney Garcia explained in her post, “The Right Look and Sound of Wakin’ Up,” these contests are basically about crafting and presenting a specific look through an audition tape.
People don’t have a deep relationship to Folgers. They don’t even have a deep relationship to “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up.” That’s why they’re hosting this contest in the first place: to inject a dose of personally considered and crafted personality into an otherwise impersonal marketing campaign.
The five finalists – Troy, Helena, Amanda, Chase, and Ethan – did just that, even if the results were sometimes a little off the mark, and they did it with stuff that wasn’t expressly musical.
Just remember that presentation counts, too. And that we’re never wrong.
