The National to Pop The Old Grey Lady’s Album Stream Cherry

Ohio indie rock quintet the National already occupies an eminent position in the indie rock world. On Friday, their cache with the literate indie rock population will skyrocket when their new album, High Violet, will be streaming exclusively on The New York Times’ website in advance of its May 11 release.

According to the band’s Tumblr page, the National opted to do this because a “low-quality leak” is spreading across the Internet “as we speak,” and the band wants fans to hear it “at its intended level of quality.”

This is definitely not something we expected out of the normally image-conscious Times, but in a weird way, it’s kind of perfect: they get to set the record straight (badump-TCH!)
