Today’s Tabs include thoughts on embracing “the cloud,” Cliff’s notes on the net neutrality issue, and Victory Records defending their disastrous anti-piracy PSA, which featured Gilbert Gottfried and swash buckling pirates.
- We took note of Victory Records’ silly anti-piracy video. Digital Music News called it “very abrasive – and questionable,” and we would have to agree. Victory’s Tony Brummel did not appreciate the criticism and gave his thoughts on the matter.
- With talks of “cloud” services from Apple and Google possibly coming soon, some hope this has potential to somewhat revive the industry. Former Lemonhead and current transactional entertainment / intellectual property attorney John P. Strohm is ready to embrace the new method of consuming music and believes it can work. We trust his judgment; he went to law school and played guitar with Evan Dando.
- Independent musicians rely heavily on the internet to distribute and promote their music, no one disagrees with that. What people do disagree on is the potential abandonment of net neutrality, which can entirely change how the internet works. Senator Tom Udall explains what has been going on and what you need to know.
