Oh my God! You guys! It’s the last Tabs of August 2010!
- In its continuing quest to blur the lines between car manufacturer and music marketing juggernaut, Scion is holding an Unsigned Bands Contest. Bands who are interested (and you should be, because Scion does a phenomenal job of promoting the artists it works with), ought to watch the above video and then e-mail the Rock it Out blog. - Amazon has launched something called Artist Central which gives artists and/or their managers the option of sprucing up their artist pages with more free content – music videos, photos, full streams of songs (but no free downloads), a Twitter stream, and a bio – to entice potential customers. We’re not sure this is going to lead to anything more than one more page for managers’ interns to update and maintain, but you never know.
- A new music conference and networking event called AMCON, or Artist Management Conference, will take place in New York this coming October. Even though leading industry managers say it’s best for management to find you instead of the other way around, this will be an opportunity for artists to mingle with dozens of artist managers, their peers, and generally learn more about where the profession is headed.
- As CD Baby’s DIY Musician Podcast creeps ever closer to its 100th installment, Kevin Breuner and his crew hold a roundtable on fan funding, an excellent supplement to the equally excellent interview that Breuner did with Rockethub co-founder Brian Meece on the preceding podcast.
