Four Chords. That’s It.

You know how you hear crusty, embittered musicians bitterly muttering that “all the hits use the same four chords”? It turns out this is completely, utterly, irrefutably true. In this five minute clip, the Australian comedy band Axis of Awesome barrels from the Beatles to Lady Gaga, from America to Australia to “Africa”, and if you’re at all interested in trying to write a hit, it’s enough to make you wonder if you shouldn’t just spend half an hour every day trying to work through this progression and get yourself on adult contemporary radio.
